That is hardly the fault of spaces, while less damaging "/home/amonk/oops;reboot" suffers from the same root problem, it wasn't checked for shell meta characters.

    If you avoid the shell, then you don't need to check for shell meta characters.
    `perldoc -f system'
    `perldoc -f exec'
