Monk's quips

by BrowserUk (Patriarch)
on Oct 09, 2004 at 09:38 UTC ( [id://397847]=monkdiscuss: print w/replies, xml ) Need Help??

Did my eyes deceive me, or is there a new Monk's quip?

And if there is only one new one (after several refreshes, all the others I saw where the old ones), how about a thread to garner suggestions for some more new ones?

Ask not what the Monastery can do for you, but what you can do for the Monastery.

    With apologies to JFK.

Aye, there is -- you have a good eye. Of course, you're a pmdev, so could have checked. Also, "(concentrate on your petition)" was removed, as it no longer fits with the culture of the monestary; I suspect it harkened back to the days when vroom did everything himself.

I'm certianly up for seeing more quips both there and in the chatterbox, so long as they fit with the cluture of the monestary and the place where they're going.

      Of course, you're a pmdev,...

Actually not. T'is good to see something different though.

Maybe we could have people nominate Quote's of the day/week/month from the actual content of that's days nodes (as opposed to quotes quoted in nodes) that (once vetted) would make guest appearances with very low frequency the following day? They might even appear as links back to the nodes they appeared in.

Ignore this. I was just so surprised/pleased to see something new falsh by I let my imagination run riot:0

    it came up at work...
perl is my hammer; i shall not be screwed.
    or from YAPsalms:

Stricture is my shepherd, I shall be warned.

It maketh me to declare my variables and leadeth me away from unclear references.

It restoreth my good habits: it leadeth me in the paths of righteouness for my sanity's sake.

Yea, though I code through the VPN with latency and dropped packets, I will fear no typos: for thou art with me; strict vars and strict subs they cover me.

Thou preparest my webpage in the presence of mod_php; thou anointest my module with interoperability; my plate is full.

Surely goodness and accuracy shall work with me in all the scripts of my life, and I will use strict in the house of perl forever.

    Hmmm,

    • I eval , therefore I'm perl
    • Interpret your way out of this...
    • perl is eXtra Special
    • A tertiary for all occasions
    • Into the valley of errors & warnings rode the strictureless hacker
    • perl - do anythin' you wanna do
    • When all about you are losing their heads, use strictures
    ???

    Update:

I'm surprised I haven't (yet) encountered the quote attributed to Larry Wall - perl makes easy jobs easy and hard jobs possible

A user level that continues to overstate my experience :-))

    • Perl - the royal road to laziness.
    • Code in fashion with Perl.
    • Perl gets the job done - can you?
    • Perl - where poets and purpose meet.
    • Huffman encoding for humans.
    • Twice the elegance in half the code.

    Best, beth

We need more llama references. I nominate at least the "Programmers enter riding llamas..." quip/quote from the bad acronyms thread.

Actually maybe it should be "programmers enter riding camels", but then it won't acronymize itself and merlyn might be a little less happy :)

    Irrelevancy is always good.

Sure, this link is not for you in particular, but for anyone stumbling at this old thread (from searching or anything like that).
