You got 76 experience points

Today is not the first time I saw this kind of message, and I actualy have seen this once or twice before recently (say within last one month). Today's incident could be related to demerphq's post here.

I am more interested in the root cause... pure guess, if one's last access time was modified backwards, then this can happen...

Bad joss! you've been beaten up and robbed of 1500 Yen!!!

Luckily Arthur McHenry at the shipyard can offer to repair our ship for 20,000 yen.

First, go back and read demerphq's post. Then realize that a user's settings cover a lot more then they might appear to; they cover a lot of miscelanious data that the server keeps about people -- including what their XP was the last time they saw the XP nodelet. Since, as I understand it, everybody's settings just got restored from backup, that number would obviously be a bit off. (I'm not sure why so far off -- I'll have to find out exactly what happened in more detail; at present all I know is what's in that post by demerphq.)

The offset is due to the fact that around 30 or so users had their settings totally clobbered by the old getVars() code reading new style vars data. Thus the users had their vars dat restored from backup. Since the backup is from yesterday anything that occured in the intervening time would have been "lost" from the settings.

Oh, OK -- it's exactly how I thought, and he really had gained 76 XP since the last time he looked at his XP Nodelet prior to the last backup. Pretty good.
