Random thoughts: I recently discovered Ska. Mirror in the Bathroom rocks big style! While I see the connection between ska and punk, they do sound very different. But I do like just about everything that's 'good' and like to analyse any music I hear. I may not particularly like Eminem's persona, but he is inventive and very good at what he does. I also recently came round to the idea of drum and bass, having initially hated it. Some electronic 'dance' music I hear on late night radio 1 can be infuriating, because there's a great beat, but it's looped for ages with no breakbeat. On the other hand, Monaco's fantastic 'What Do You Want From Me' has to have the most abrupt transitions ever! New Order aren't quite up to God-like genius level, but they are one of the most influential bands ever. The Killers rock, partly because of the New Order influence, but also because of the Jean-Michel Jarre influence.

In the most general terms though, my musical preference is Big beat/breaks, whether the beats and breaks are electronically synthesised or guitar-led or piano led or whatever.
