blacklight lights++
A friend of mine has some glowing green skeleton lights on
his porch, and those are pretty cool, too.
In general, tho, I don't hate the lights so much as the
stupid glowing santas and jesuses (hezeuses out here in
this awful land of mexican-speaking folks) and other
commercialmas1 stuff. Ugh. Yesterday all that
crap went up as decorations here at work.
I hate this time of year.
1 Downvote away, I don't care - christians
replaced the winter solstice with christmas so they could
convert the heathens, and now capitalism has totally replaced
christmas with commercials and a feeding frenzy of shopping.
There is no christmas, only ZUUL! errr... commercialmas. | [reply] |

I'll drink to that.
I'm not much for the xmas holiday, but I have to admit, I
think the "Bubble Lights" are pretty cool. Of course,
that's from a purely technical viewpoint. I like the
blacklight idea though. Does somebody actually make those?

You know, that's not a half-bad idea. Connect 'em up to X10 controllers.. now to see if I can remember this after xmas when they all go on discount!

Anybody ever check out Mister House? A very cool voice activated home automation program written entirely in perl. Same code runs on Win32 and Linux. It could certainly spice up the Christmas lights...

I do love those blinking red stars at front doors.
I do that ever since my mother shouted: Look, a Christmas brothel upon spotting one of those.

If you setup the white lights around your room with multiple strings and dimmers you get very nice lighting.

"Christmas Tree Flambé," anyone? That would be one way to add some light to the room..
Side note: You'll never believe where I looked up the accented e ASCII code -- my copy of "Epson GW-Basic User's guide, (c)1981" It was dangerous work -- I nearly inadvertantly remembered how painful it was. Like -- the gotos, the terror! No, no, nononono, not the gotos! I'll be nice, really -- you don't need that white jacket.. *whimper*

I have a rope light (Christmas lights encased in a flexible,
clear piece of tubing) running up and down the sides of my
computer shelves since I felt that there weren't enough
lights on my computer shelves.

Last week I brought in some blue rope lights to frame my cube. This week, the occupant of the next cube over brought in red rope lights. It's starting to look pretty cool in here!

Hmmm - just looked at the results - no one has voted for green lights. The text next to the bar is "/0%", rather that the "0/0%" I would have expected. | [reply] |

It doesn't really matter what colour I prefer, as they always
vanish into the depths of hell (my garage which has never seen
a car since we bought the place 10 years ago) and I end up running
out at the last minute and buying whatever stuff is left over.
On the plus side, this means I never got taken by the "icicle lights"
fad that hit here a couple of years ago, in which people
were paying unbelievable sums for the damn things which
come pre-tangled in the box.

Hmmm... more light pollution... yummy.
Actually, I prefer to use the lights inside. My computer room has nails in the walls begging for a string of the things, other then that I have little use for them. (Although I did light my dorm with them back in my college days) | [reply] |

I enjoy the little 'chili pepper' lights at parties and I've even seen little skeleton/skull lights all strung up for halloween parties... if they were used for this holiday season, would it be considered a weird 'theme'? or just kinda bizzarre? It would be one funky tree. .. as for the small white lights, they do make great atmosphere for any romantic time... turn those baby's on, put on some Barry White in the background, put a new plastic cover on the couch like grandma uses, a glass of pinot in your hand, and whisper perl code in the ear. It's gonna be a very happy new year!!! :o) -Zo | [reply] |

What about those lights that look like icicles? As I look out my window, I can see about five different houses with them. Some of these hillbillies probably didn't even take 'em down last year.=IndyZ | [reply] |

I actually have a string of those draped over my monitor/computer both in my room at school and at work. They make me a little bit happier and actually provide just the right amount of light for working.

I'd really like to hang some white lights all around the trim of my house, but I live right next to a small airport. I'd hate to have a Cesna mistake my driveway for a runway. | [reply] |

Unless your driveway is 20 feet wide, 2200 feet long, and has lamps placed exactly every 100 feet, I wouldn't be worrying too much about that. Oh yea, and something resembling a VASI.

What the hell is a VASI? Tell me please, because my driveway is exactly 20 feet wide, 2200 feet long, and there's cheap outdoor lighting spaced at precise 100 foot intervals. I need to know what a VASI is and what it looks like so I can go outside and remove whatever I have resembling it immediately!
