NodeReaper can survive anything! Not only that, but when other players don't survive, he only grows stronger.

Warning: Unless otherwise stated, code is untested. Do not use without understanding. Code is posted in the hopes it is useful, but without warranty. All copyrights are relinquished into the public domain unless otherwise stated. I am not an angel. I am capable of error, and err on a fairly regular basis. If I made a mistake, please let me know (such as by replying to this node).

      the neverdying Paco!
        Paco forever!
I think Revelation, not you, should use that warning. Several times he admits not to have tested his codes, hence no one has replied to many of his nodes. Other than 100104...
When I haven't tested code, I like to say that (in the text itself) rather than a footnote.

Yeash. I came back to this site to find that somebody has insulted everything I posted (or at least five+ of my posts). If you have some problem with my me, why don't you send me a /msg or something? I'm not vain enough to think I'm a perfect programmer, or even a great Perl programmer. I guess I am vain enough to offer solutions and try to help when I can.

Man, what did I do to you? In fact, who are you? How did I become public enemy #1 on this site?

If it's really that bad, I guess I'll just leave again.

NodeReaper would win by disposing of the other contestants (for reasons such as off topic questions in Seekers of Perl Wisdom and being trolls :P ).
Which IMHO is totally fair :D

    Martin

Except that Anonymous Monk seems to have an infinite supply of lives, and can occasionally ask enough questions the right way that would drive everybody else off the island!

Who or what is Vote Fairy? I visited Vote Fairy's homenode, but I still don't get it, could someone please explain?

Who or what is Vote Fairy?

A figure of speech. You know how you have a limited number of votes (for upvoting and downvoting nodes) each day, but once per day they get replenished? There's a once-per-day process (a cron job or some similar thing) that looks at each user in the database and sets the votes left number up to the correct number, based on the user's level. Some people like to call this the "Vote Fairy". Unlike some of the others, a user account is not really needed for this. (NodeReaper needs one because somebody has to own the reaped-node placeholder nodes; im2 needs one so you can /msg it, among other reasons; Anonymous Monk needs one because, again, somebody has to own his nodes. But the Vote Fairy doesn't need to exist as a user, it was just somebody's idea of an interesting joke.) I was a little surprised that root was not included in the poll.

        root's running the contest ;)

NodeReaper is powerless against the Ninja Monk.

I dunno, that Anonymous Monk is pretty sneaky... could be anyone, anywhere, anytime!

Anonymous Monk: There are just too many instantiations of that guy for even the node reaper to compete against :-)

Of course the gods could just shutdown access to everyone else, and thus win by default...

    -Scott

Ah, but there's the rub. The gods would destroy themselves afterwards with noone left to compete against, in titanic warfare.

Unlike the BOC song, "Baby, fear the Reaper".

    Cowboy Neal, hands down.

Nodereaper will be too busy cleaning up after Anonymous, and anon will be too cowardly to play to win.

Just wanted to point out that Anonymous Monk is a team effort too, since there are many users under this particular hood.

Even understanding the will to kill them (I really don't see the point of skipping registration) I think they will survive, they will survive.... oh yeahhhh... =:c)

    Cheers

Nodereaper would make it to the end, only to be overwhelmed by Anonymous Monk.

So who are paco and antivroom?

    --DrWhy

"If God had meant for us to think for ourselves he would have given us brains. Oh, wait..."

Paco was one of the earliest public (i.e., not a friend or aquaintance of Tim Vroom) users to join up and ask a legitimate question on Perlmonks. The question pertained to visiting a directory structure recursively.

The answer back in those days was to use File::Find. These days, the answer would probably tend more towards File::Find::Rule or File::Finder, depending on what you wanted to do. They certainly have nicer interfaces. Funny what a difference a few years makes.

Paco sprang to prominence a few years later when Ovid ran a "Vote for Paco!" sig for a while. After the Paco node threatened to take the lead in the Best Nodes thread, demerphq rewrote the best nodes stuff to present a random selection of culled best nodes. We never saw Paco again.

Antivroom. Back in the old days, we made a big fuss about when the site hit 1e5, or 100 000 nodes. Bets were laid. Fortunes were made and lost. I had a question I wanted to ask at about the time of the 99999 rollover, about installing Math::Pari. In my youthful foolishness, I tried to claim the spot.

Of course, I should have known better. Antivroom scored node 100000. I had to settle for node 100001. I suppose this means that I am crunchy and taste good with ketchup.

Which is why it pleases me no end that at the time I write these lines, I am the only voter for antivroom. It makes for a certain sense of closure.

      - another intruder with the mooring in the heart of the Perl
