Horrible Temptation =)

Hey I just noticed that I have the power to promote my own posts to the homepage. Sure, I had to get to a pretty high level just to be able to do that at all but still, it seems kinda evil that I could write a post, approve it for public consumption and bump it to the homepage all by myself. I resisted this time Buwahahaha but yah never know.

Maybe I just have too much "checks and balances" on the brain from the recent elections...

You gain the power to approve nodes to their categories and/or the front page once you attain the level of Friar. It's the way of saying "Okay, you're a big shot now here at the Monastery. You've taken the punches and contributed enough that we trust you" I approved one of my own posts to its category just to see if there was a checking system in place. I consider it utterly gauche to approve my own posts and therefore don't do it. It's hard enough to get to Friar so that no idiot bent on destruction would ever make it. :-) Therefore no check needed.

(BTW, I'm suprised the two of you made Bishop and Abbot resepctively and never knew this)
Is there any correct documentation on what Stuff you get as you level-up?

All I know is from the Voting/Experience System FAQ, which basically says that a higher level gets you more votes/day to spend, and that there may be more benefits added eventually. I also have heard that at a certain level, you can post a picture on your home node, and then there's this.

Anything else I should be looking for, as incentive to journey further along the road to Saint? ;)

Well, there's the Level Powers node. From that, it doesn't look like there are any powers granted beyond what you get as a friar.
No, I gained the level of Bishop without knowing I could up MY OWN POSTS. I actively moderate other posts to live and frontpage status. I thought that was rather clear from the post I made... =P And it isn't hard to get to Friar, you can do it with only one or two posts... You get points just for voting, you can get rather high up without actively participating, just blow your votes everyday downticking the people you hate like merlyn or princepawn =)

      I shouldn't have said that...

I recently noticed this feature too. Is it because we're at a higher level now? Possibly because since we're at this higher level, we may be given a little more control over everyone's posts - including ourt own? :-)

I really don't think it makes a huge difference though... most of us are just as likely to promote someone else's post as well as our own. At this point, I hope that we promote posts based on perceived merit (I admit this can be subjective).

You may need to turn the moderation box on from your homepage controls and likely will need to pick where on the page it should be displayed. Of course, if you feel the power is too great a temptation, you can turn the box off... =)
