bockman has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:
Hello Monks.
I'm interested in the Net::AOLIM module, and as such tried out their example.pl script. I typed in my username/password and it said it couldn't connect to the server due to timeout. On the same computer, I can connect with Gaim. I typed it all in correctly. Does this module still work? Should I file a bug?
I also tried writing my own, as per their documentation, fails with the same error.

My AIM client stopped working yesterday. I think the TOC servers are down. I have not been able to find any news on this. The OSCAR servers seem to be fine.
Go to http://toc.oscar.aol.com/ in a Java enabled web browser, you will see that it does not work.
http://aimexpress.aol.com/ does work.

Net::AOLIM says that is uses the TOC protocol, I don't know if AOL is even still supporting TOC. GAIM uses Oscar, but might still have TOC support also, check if you can log in with TOC through GAIM or not. | [reply] |
