Leveraging Perl to learn C#

slloyd has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

I have been programming in perl for the past 12 years.. My work now requires me to learn C#. Does anyone have any advice or references to help me relate to this new language - as most of my programming experience has been perl up to now? For instance, are reflections like $ENV variables?

I highly recommend getting a copy of the C# Language Pocket Reference from O'Reilly. Also, I highly recommend: This Tutorial Handy References: MS .NET Framework Class Library Mono Documentation - Including Class Library	[reply]

I've been playing around using C# two years ago. Maybe these links are useful to you: http://icsharpcode.net/OpenSource/SD/Default.aspx - free IDE for C# http://asp.net/Default.aspx?tabindex=0&tabid=1 - free IDE especially for ASP.NET WebApps from Microsoft I suggest you to install Microsofts SDK for .NET - it's also freely available and includes a lot of documentation and tutorials.
