(OT)Python monks?

thor has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Hi all,

I've learned so much here at the monestary. Recently, I've taken an interest in python. However, I don't know if there's there's an analog to the monestary in the python world. I think that our community here is quite unique and wouldn't hope to find something with the same caliber of people. However, I think that I would benefit personally from finding somewhere where at least the spirit was the same.

As far as I can see one of the best reasons for using Perl is PerlMonks! Every now and then you come across a "best of breed" that is so much better than any of the others in its cohort that the others just fade into the background. PerlMonks is of that sort. Sorry, you have been spoilt. :) DWIM is Perl's answer to Gödel	[reply]

I haven't found them til yet. No python- and no ruby-monks - or anything similar. Of course there are a lot of community-sites out there but nothing comparable to perlmonks.org. Please leave a node/note if you find something.	[reply]

FWIW, I maintain a list of such queries at Sites like PerlMonks. Makeshifts last the longest.	[reply]

delurk There is no direct analogue of PerlMonks for Python - ie, a structured community. Snakehandlers definitely doesn't count since it's pretty much unused by Pythonistas. What python does have is relatively friendly mailing lists - python-list (aka comp.lang.python) for general use; python-tutor for newbies, python-dev for development OF the language. (it's interesting to lurk even if you never post), and planet.python.org for python-related blogs. I don't know whether something similar in design to Perlmonks would ever gain critical mass - if something did, I suspect that it would be far more wiki-like. -T. relurk	[reply]
