in reply to perlmonk.org Out(r)age Issues

Irrecoverable data? Noooooooooo!!!!!!!
If I have a few folders on a machine (such as perlmonk.org), is there a best method for backing up the data remotely? You can tell I don't use *nix much :)
(Obviously I can go in manually and ftp the data out, but I have a feeling there is a cleaner way of doing this.)

Thanks,
smitz

    smitz,

rsync is a wonderful utility to achieve such. I do not know if perlmonk.org supports it though, or the machine you want to backup to. They have to be running a rsync deamon at their eind (iirc).

    Good luck,

You don't really need an rsync daemon. You can rsync via ssh or *shudder* rsh.
