jdtoronto has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Esteemed monks,

For some time now I have been happily using Net::POP3 for a whole variety of things, but today I have come up against a brick wall. A client using some of my code wants to get email from his gmail account.

For this he needs to use POP3 with SSL and port 995.

Being an inherently lazy programmer I wondered if their was anything by way of example code for this, or a module that is appropriate.

How much of this are you trying to handle yourself? There are plenty of examples on CPAN, such as GMail::Checker. You could subclass Net::POP3 to use IO::Socket::SSL instead of IO::Socket::INET. What have you already tried? -- brian d foy <brian@stonehenge.com> Subscribe to The Perl Review	[reply]

Look at stunnel. I use it for the exact same purpose. Not Perl, but easy to use. -- dakkar - Mobilis in mobile Most of my code is tested... Perl is strongly typed, it just has very few types (Dan)	[reply]

or if you not bound to Net::POP3 you could just use Mail::POP3Client and its socket method to set the socket to an IO::Socket::SSL-Socket.	[reply]
