DiscoStu ne Macphisto

by Macphisto (Hermit)

Well, it has come to my attention that some people think DiscoStu and I are the same person. I didn't think this would need clarifying but it obviously does. I am not DiscoStu. While I revere the Disco Stu from the Simpsons, from what I've read of this DiscoStu, he's a troll.

Some people have noted, "Well it just sounds like you." Grand. I may be a jerk at times, I may be opinionated and I may be argumentative, but I've always signed My Name to my posts -- good or bad.

Another bit of supposed evidence is that DiscoStu and I have cooresponding "last here" times. Well, every web browser I have defaults to www.perlmonks.org, and with the cookie I'm automagically logged in. So my last here time is constantly changing.

Again, I didn't think this needed clarification, but to anyone who thinks I'm DiscoStu: I am not DiscoStu. One of things that bugs me is that I wasn't ever asked. Nobody /msg'd me to ask or anything of the such. I came across a reference to it in a ChatterBox conversation.

Here endeth the bitching...

The more we post nodes with DiscoStu in them, the more attention we give him, the more he sits there and chuckles to himself at a job well done.

PerlMonks isn't Slashdot. I have no problem if vroom wishes to take a look at the site's access logs and identify who this person is. Either post the information or ban him, I don't care.

    Otherwise, let's just ignore him.

I don't want him to get any more attention than he already has, either. But I also don't want people thinking it's me.

Why not just msg the people whom you think are mistaken? I certainly never confused the two of you, nor has anyone else that I know of. A super search for both of your names reveals a total of one thread (this one) that links the two of you. I just don't think this is worthy of a post. Msg people, make a note on your home node, hunt down and cut the phone cord of you-know-you, but don't complain to the monastery at large when 99% of the people don't even know who either of you are. Sorry to sound so harsh, but a node like yours which links to you-know-you four times is not going to make him go away any time soon. You've made valuable contributions to this place, he has not.

I fully understand and appreciate what you're saying. But I don't have a composite list of who thinks this. So I felt this was the best way to get my message across.

Although I was not aware that people thought this, I think that it was a Good Thing that Mac brought this up.

One reason that I say that is how was Mac supposed to know who had heard the rumor and who had not? He could have never /msg'd all the apropos people.

Another reason is that it is important to know that these sorts of uncalled for accusations are being made and how much it sucks that no one had the balls to go up to Mac and tell him.
