in thread I started with...:

No, a slide rule and log tables. Oh, and one of those Sinclair calculators where you had to use reverse Polish. I don't go back as far as some of the memories in this thread. What a fantastic trip down memory lane.

Reverse Polish Lives!

A mere ten years ago I bought an HP-48GX graphing calculator with, yes, Reverse Polish notation as the default entry mode. It appears that this is still produced.

I still have my HP-15 and HP-16 calculators, bought in the mid-eighties. Both still work perfectly well, and take up little space in my briefcase, and, of course, use RPN.

HP -- at least before Carly Fiorino -- made solid hardware; I've heard their quality has gone downhill since Hewlett nor Packard stopped being involved in the company's operations.

Did you have anti logs or like me did they only let you have logs and you had to work backwards. I showing my age now! However I'm really a newbie as for as computers are concerned my first computer was a 386 in 2000 so I don't have any early memories, but it is very interesting reading about others beginnings.
Oh yes, anti logs as well as logs, and they were the flashy 5 sig. fig. ones, not the cheapo 4's. I still have the slide rule but I'm not sure where the log tables are now. If you went into a book store now and asked for log tables what a funny look you'd get.
