Consideration shortcuts

First of all, I don't think the current method for considering nodes is bad at all. I'm quite comfortable with it. However, it's undeniable that a significant portion of all considerations ask to retitle nodes, reap duplicated ones or add <code> or <readmore> tags to them.

So I thought about adding some shortcuts to these common actions. This is a sample layout (square brackets are check boxes, parentheses are radio buttons):

[ ] Consider node
( ) Add code tags
( ) Add readmore tags
( ) Retitle node
( ) Reap duplicate or empty
(x) Other
[__text_box__]
[ Moderate button ]
[download]

The text in the text box would be ignored if "Add code tags" or "Add readmore tags" were selected. It would contain the new title or the "Other" reason to consider. In case of "Reap duplicate or empty", it would contain the node_id of the duplicated node (or a link to it), or would be empty for the case of an empty node. The option selected by default would be "Other" as shown.

Furthermore, this would bring the possibility of automating the vote on your own considerations. For example, if "Add code tags", "Add readmore tags" or "Retitle node" are selected, an automatic vote would be cast on "Edit".

What do you think about it? It's not probably worth the effort of developing this for such a small improvement, but I thought it couldn't be bad to share this thought with you all. Maybe someone has a better idea after reading this!

Something to read about the same subject: Editors editing considerations?. This issue came up before and, although it was favorably received, nobody did actually implement the changes.	[reply]

Put it in your Free Nodelet? I might put it in my Free Nodelet too, but it'd probably be for "remove READMORE" and "unreap". Then you can share it so others can paste it into theirs (I have plans for making such sharing even easier). Having a proof of concept also makes adding it as a site feature easier (less code/HTML for someone to write and more reason for someone to be motivated). - tye	[reply]

A couple of minor points: the "Retitle node" option should also read the text box for the suggested new title (one of my pet peeves is considering for retitle without a suggestion). And the "Reap as duplicate" should read the textbox (or have a separate entry area) so you can enter what it's a duplicate of. That said, I could live with this change, although I don't see it as a big enough win to actually volunteer to do it. `:-)` Update I didn't notice Hue-Bond had already addressed the points I was trying to make. Do not rebuke them with harsh words ... but rather lead them gently - with URLs - so that they may learn wisdom.	[reply] [d/l]
