IIRC, nmake and dmake (sorry, no link) are the dominant, if not only, free compilers for Windows.
UPDATE: I spoke too soon. I was informed that they were compilers but, in fact, nmake is used many times with MS compilers, and dmake is part of the GCC compiler. Thanks to jcwren for correcting me. redmist Silicon Cowboy
