in reply to GET access to Super Search, and corresponding shortcut?

The plan has always been to have Super Search give you a URL that you could copy to repeat a search that worked well -- you would use your browser's "copy link location" to get a URL suitable to put in a bookmark; select and copy the text displayed for the URL to get something suitable for pasting to use on PM ([href://...]).

So find someone on pmdev who you think you can motivate to produce the patch. Or who you think would agree to mentor you as a new pmdev member (get them to explain to you how pmdev works first, however, as the restrictions required by the way the site works can be quite a surprise).

Note that links to Super Search will only prepopluate the fields and won't run off and do the search until the visitor presses the submit button. You can currently generate a URL that will fool Super Search into starting the search when someone clicks the link, but that will be fixed soon.

Creating a pseudo-URL-scheme shortcut ([supersearch://...]) isn't likely to happen as the number of combinations that you can put into a super search query are too many to make such work very well (way too many option names to memorize). And simple super searches are the worst kind (the load the server more and usually produce results too slowly, requiring too many "Next" button pushes) so I don't see a lot of value in encourage people to compose links that do the worst kind of super searches.

Well, without false modesty and in all earnestness I doubt I would have the technical skills and know how to do so...

So am I abnormal in that I often compose Google advanced searches manually? ;-)

You don't have the technical skill to find someone on pmdev ?

Google advanced searches don't have as many keywords to memorize. And a pseudo-URL-scheme shortcut would encourage people to share simple searches over complex ones, which I don't want to encourage.

What are the obvious names for all of the form elements on super search? I doubt any two monks will agree on most of those. And they won't match what super search is using anyway so someone would have to write a translator between the two naming schemes. And you aren't going to do it, so I don't feel bad for refusing to do it.

You should share searches that you've verified anyway, so there isn't much disadvantage to having to verify the search in order to get the spec for how to share it.
