What Do You Get Out Of It ... challenges to learn more about Perl. ...

Also, since my work is not Perl teaching or consulting, I have learned a lot about writing informative short Perl, and doing it fast. Now, when I need to write something "quick and dirty" in my work, it's both clearer, and quicker.

Answering at PM provides two key elements for learning writing; many examples of other's writing that you must read, including examples of very good writing, and practice at it where there is some feedback.

Speaking of very good writing, the post was not only a pleasure to read, but was for me an especially good example of using <readmore> to deliver two levels of detail, serving both the time-crunched and those more interested. (And even the many of us who are both.)
