Seriously, though, this makes me think that perhaps as an alternative to the Perl Foundation's grant program a system of offering prizes/rewards to individuals who develop specific Perl functionality might help accelerate Perl development(kind of like the X-prize but on a smaller scale:)). If specific companies or individuals were looking for, say, improvement of a CPAN module, they could offer up something like the case of brewski and see what kind of submissions come in. You never know who might be working independently on something that your company needs and could produce for you in a hurry. I read Adam and Chris's posts over at use.perl regularly, and when I saw Adam's challenge I figured this would be right up Chris's alley...
