First, read How do I create a Poll?. Then suggest your poll here.

Good idea to start a new quest, because the old one was decidedly overgrown, but how 'bout including a direct link to it anyway?

Complete ideas are more likely to be used.

Well, it's not complete due to me not being very expert in this area, but I expect knowledgeable people to give helpful contributions...

Since I misunderstood the last poll myself and others mentioned other famous doctors from various tv series or movies, how about another poll with a title, as a pun, identical to the former one, or perhaps with a lowercase "d", as follows?

The best Doctor:

Other suggestions?

Update: added Moriarty's suggestions. Incidentally, while searching Wikipedia for his suggested entries, I found a list of fictional doctors, that may be helpful: time permitting I'm browsing it later. Unfortunately, I couldn't find Dr. Kildare there...

Update: added anonymonk's suggestion as long as two other ideas of mine.

Update: added planetscape's suggestion.

Update: added girarde's suggestion.

Update: added DutchCoder 's suggestion. But if we're beginning to add singers and groups I don't know where we could end up. How 'bout Dr. Feelgood?

Update: added ryanc's suggestion.

Update: added Lady_Aleena's and jdporter's suggestions, as well as an option of mine. Also included the link for Dr. Kildare, which funnily enough I couldn't fine, which in turn is very strange since its wp entry is there since September 2nd, 2006!

Update: added anonymonk's suggestion.

Update: [Mon Dec 3 17:58:49 2007] added tubaandy's suggestion.

Update: [Thu Dec 6 21:25:57 2007] added bdimych's suggestion. (Incidentally, thank you for the direct links, but FWIW you can use the Monastery's shortcuts instead of hardcoding a tags, check the source of this very node to see how!)

Update: [Mon Dec 31 15:34:09 2007] added Onur's suggestion. Also see the comment in parentheses in the previous update, which applies to you as well.

Update: [Mon Feb 11 14:21:11 2008] added AKSHUN's suggestion and those of rgiskard and KSURi.

Update: [Fri Apr 25 16:38:18 2008] added papidave's suggestion.

Should Perl become outlawed, what would you do (after the circumstancial denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance)?
    • (any type of) Assembly
    • Basic
    • C
    • C++
    • C#
    • Cobol
    • Fortran
    • Java
    • Lisp
    • PHP
    • Pyton
    • Ruby
    • Shell
    • VHDL
    • Visual Basic
    • write that book you always wanted to write
    • participate in anything GPL/BSD/MIT-licensed
    • build a log cabin and live in the woods ever-after
    • Rebuild Perl from scratch and name it otherwise
I personally.. well, I don't think it counts as "(any type of) Assembly", so I'd insert FORTH after that choice.

      --shmem

      _($_=" "x(1<<5)."?\n".q·/)Oo. G°\ /
                                    /\_¯/(q /
      ----------------------------  \__(m.====·.(_("always off the crowd"))."·
      ");sub _{s./.($e="'Itrs `mnsgdq Gdbj O`qkdq")=~y/"-y/#-z/;$e.e && print}

I personally believe that I would:

      • Rebuild Perl from scratch and name it Perl

But I also PB I would do so in a poorer way than $Larry did in the first place.

Why is this in answer to my own -completely unrelated- suggestion, anyway?

Why is this in answer to my own -completely unrelated- suggestion, anyway?

Because I did not find a "reply" button or posting place that would just be another entry in the thread. It takes a while to become a proficient monk (^^,)

EDIT : I had not noticed that "comment on..." at the top, before. It's got to be that one, I guess. the steps we've already taken are covered with wisdom but we still need to look back for seeing it...

I cannot BELIEVE that Dr. Strangelove was omitted. As well as Dr. Phibes.

    Oh, you said BEST.

and Dr Finlay... well he was the best in the 1970s on british tv, mayb thats why hes not in this list ;+P

Really, I was mainly thinking of doctors from tv series in the beginning, but eventually the poll suggestion is being broadened to generic fictional doctors and beyond. Adding your own suggestions, of course.

    Here's a few more :-

    • Dr Quincy
    • Dr Kildare
    • Dr Mark Sloan

Can't think of any others at the moment.

I know we're all a little nerdy here, but I can't believe no one has mentioned Dr. Ruth!

Doctor Who is the name of the series, The Doctor is the name of the character.

There are two fictional characters (there could be more) called "The Doctor" the one on Doctor Who and the one on Star Trek: Voyager.

Babylon 5 (cosmology) - Dr. Stephen Franklin and Dr. Sarah Chambers.

seaQuest - Dr. Kristin Westphalen, Dr.Wendy Smith, and Dr. Perry.

ER: (The following appeared in at least 6 episodes.)

    • Dr. Jessica Albright
    • Dr. Donald Anspaugh
    • Dr. Alexander Babcock
    • Dr. Peter Benton
    • Dr. Ray Barnett
    • Dr. John Carter
    • Dr. Jing-Mei Chen
    • Dr. Victor Clemente
    • Dr. Janet Coburn
    • Dr. Elizabeth Corday
    • Dr. Nick Cooper
    • Dr. Dustin Crenshaw
    • Dr. David Cvetic
    • Dr. Anna Del Amico
    • Dr. Carl Deraad
    • Dr. Eddie Dorset
    • Dr. Maggie Doyle
    • Dr. Lucien Dubenko
    • Dr. Dale Edson
    • Dr. Cleo Finch
    • Dr. Greg Fischer
    • Dr. Steven Flint
    • Dr. Michael Gallant
    • Dr. Dennis Gant
    • Dr. Tony Gates
    • Dr. Paul Grady
    • Dr. Mark Greene
    • Dr. Angela Hicks
    • Dr. Jack Kayson
    • Dr. Abby Keaton
    • Dr. Luka Kovac
    • Dr. Sarah Langworthy
    • Dr. Kim Legaspi
    • Dr. Susan Lewis
    • Dr. Abby Lockhart
    • Dr. Dave Malucci
    • Dr. David Morgenstern
    • Dr. Kevin Moretti
    • Dr. Archie Morris
    • Dr. Paul Myers
    • Dr. Eve Peyton
    • Dr. Nina Pomerantz
    • Dr. Gregory Pratt
    • Dr. Neela Rasgotra
    • Dr. Robert Romano
    • Dr. Bogdanilivestsky Romansky
    • Dr. Doug Ross
    • Dr. William Swift
    • Dr. Tabash
    • Dr. John Taglieri
    • Dr. Upton
    • Dr. Carl Vucelich
    • Dr. Kerry Weaver
    • Dr. Ellis West

    Want more?

    Lady Aleena

"An it harm none, do as ye will."

Babylon 5 (cosmology) - Dr. Stephen Franklin and Dr. Sarah Chambers.

Do you really mean cosmology? Anyway I found Dr. Stephen Franklin in Wikipedia, but not Dr. Sarah Chambers. So I'm adding the former.

seaQuest - Dr. Kristin Westphalen, Dr.Wendy Smith, and Dr. Perry.

Of these, the first seems to be the "most important" one, and I would add her to the list. What do you think about it?

ER: (The following appeared in at least 6 episodes.)

Oh no! I know in advance there would be far too many of them from that series. Just name the one which in your seemingly far from being humble opinion is the one there.

      Want more?

Not sure, this poll proposal, which initially seemed interesting is now slowly turning somewhat into a nightmare and I find it unlikely to be accepted anyway. Perhaps I should have better stated the scope of "Dr." charachters to be listed as options...

I prefer to use the term cosmology instead of universe. to me there is but one universe with a finite number of dimensions and an unlimtited amount of realities.

For Dr. Sarah Chambers look at the series Crusade.

Those three seaQuest doctors are actually by season. Westphalen is season 1, Smith season 2, Perry season 3.

If I had to choose one, I would go with Dr. John Carter. He has the most episodes. You could group them together and say ER doctors or something.

        Lady Aleena

"An it harm none, do as ye will."

Hmm, Dr. Doom would be a nice add. As would be Dr. Strange, Dr. Don Blake (alter ego of Thor), (and not to leave the DC characters out) Dr. Light. (These are all comic book characters in the US, so probably not the best choices...)

Update: How could I have forgotten Dr. Frank N. Furter! Man.

Dr. Alban - a dentist who had a big hit with "It's my life"
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dr._Alban

It's from 1992, and I still can't get that song out of my head.

I remember the hit perfectly well, I was a teenager back then after all. I was thinking of (little more than) fictional charachters though and I fear that adding real-life "doctors" would lenghten the list too much. Or make for a completely different poll.
