you are using the term 'cell', are you working with some sort of SpreadSheet? If so you may find the links in Re: Perl module to write to an existing excel file in linux very helpful. If you are using a Windows OS and MS Excel you could use Win32::OLE, use Super Search to find plenty of examples for this.
