You're right, but you are wasting your time. Your post should never have been downvoted, but you will bang your head trying to get the kneejerks that did it, to explain their reasoning.

And you'll notice that all the posts subsequent to your mentioning XP are anonymous. Because, whilst they'll all say that "XP is unimportant", which you know and obviously do not care about as you have continued to argue your valid, intellectual point knowing full well that it is likely do garner more downvotes--it's called a principle--'they' all post anonymously because they are scared that they might loose some of that XP that they claim so vermently doesn't matter.

There are a lot of them (kneejerks) around here, without the logic to justify their opinions, or the balls to try.

Or maybe I just believe that voting is anonymous for a reason, and prefer not to reveal my identity on general principle. Arguably, I should've just let Argel wonder, but I decided to explain myself this time.

(For the record; I'm the author of the "can't tell time" and "5 days later" comments; I don't know who any of the other anonymous comments are, and had I realized this discussion would grow as much as it has, I would've used a handle on mine, as on this one.)

    --c

      Still no name though.

As I said, I believe voting should be anonymous, period. I don't tell people when I upvote them, and I don't tell people when I downvote them. In this case, Argel asked why the node was downvoted, and I decided to answer. Clearly, I should've just let him wonder.

        --c

So, your anonymity isn't important enough to you to prevent you from having an account so that you can cast kneejerk downvotes, but is important enough that you have to resort to it when owning up.

      Yeah right!

I downvoted the post because I thought it added little to no value to the thread. Obviously, you disagree, and that's fine.

Had Argel not made an issue of it, perhaps the majority opinion would have resulted in an overall postive score for the node, and that would be no skin off my nose.

I am choosing to remain anonymous in this discussion for much the same reasons I don't publicize who I voted for in national elections. I have an account to read, ask, and respond to posts. No ordinary monk can view my voting record, and I doubt those who could pull the data would bother to unless there's a pattern of misbehavior.

        --c

And just to be super-clear: I downvoted before Argel asked about XP, not because he asked about it.

At least they are consistent. They see XP as important (whether or not they admit it), so a comment about a downvote, seen through their limited world view, must be about XP, not anything else.
Votes are integral part of "XP System" ... it was "question" of "who did this anonymous action, explain it". Is every downvote supposed to get one such question? Run out of space

You are right and I should know better by now but it's hard to let go sometimes and that is something I need to work on (so maybe some of those downvotes are warranted). Regardless, thanks for the support -- it is very much appreciated!
