Why are you anxious? Do you fear Perl 6?

That's a fairly large conceptual leap from "it's been a long time" to "the community is not really behind it". I think it's more like "language design is hard". What's that you say? We already have Perl 5; it should be a hop-skip-and-jump to Perl 6? If you think that, then you don't understand the problem being solved.

I wouldn't call Perl 6 vaporware. To me, vaporware is something that's talked about, but no one is really working on. Perl 6 has quite a few real, actual people doing real, actual (volunteer!) work to make it come to life. When we all give up, then I'd say that it's vaporware.
