You need to update your home node. It's underselling you as it only advertises 22 years experience. Thought you might like to know.Cheers, JohnGG | [reply] |

I was so happy when I saw the title of the post. My life for the past three years has revolved around the vagaries of SNMP and I've just started writing a distro destined for CPAN to make complex SNMP stuff *simple*
The question looked like one of a newbie, but I read on, desiring to at least be of assistance.
And my heart just sank when I saw...

<troll_food>
...so I think people are starting to come around to my way of computer hacking.
Methinks you have confused the terms hacking(verb) and hack(noun)
Hacking in the 1960s and 1970s was used to describe an individual working with computers who was technically gifted. Many people in the industry still adhere to this definition, though it is not what is generally meant when used in the media or by those outside of the industry.
Hack describes an unskilled person or one who lacks technical acumen. It can also be used to describe a particularly ugly piece of code meant to be used as a temporary measure.
I realize that they're very similar, so it's an easy mistake to make.
Unless of course, you are using the newfangled definition of hacking which refers to computer related crime - in which case is this some kind of admission of guilt?

For those who have not caught on, Kevin_Raymer is one of our pet trolls. He shows up every now and then just to amuse us. My guess is that *hacking* is just his day job, but he really dreams of making it big as a comedian.

Kevin Raymer reminds me of Kevin Bacon, and probably just about every perlmonk knows about Kevin Raymer, which reminds me of a game. | [reply] |

Regarding the Consideration, I know that not everyone finds his posts humorous but some Monks do. And for that reason I think reaping the node or replacing the title both go overboard. I think a better suggestion for consideration would have been to prepend the title with "(Humor/Troll)".
Personally, I'd rather have Kevin_Raymer show up from time to time with mildly amusing posts like this than have Cop return (e.g. see Re: Perl is dead). | [reply] |

I personally think "unintended humor" would do it. He seems harmless enough.
