My experience has been that very few programmers try to follow anything as clearly defined as PBP, and with Perl you're generally lucky just to find a place where everyone turns on strict and warnings. You may chafe at some of the PBP stuff, but compared to the utter chaos that reigns in most programming teams I think you should count your blessings.
