Marmite (at least in New Zealand) is pretty much just Vegemite with added sugar.

I have a friend doing a PhD in marmite (no, really) who would disagree :) though if true it would probably explain why I prefer it :P I've always found that the texture of vegemite reminds me of a cross between petroleum jelly and wax which perhaps helps to explain my aversion..

The more important thing though is: do you salt your porridge?

Yes, I certainly do---though the most essential ingredient for me is raisins (fresh fruit like rasberries or blueberries would be nice, but it's usually not practicable for me). Yum :)

You'll like your porridge even more if you soak the raisins overnight in whisky. Preferably an inoffensive middle-of-the-road Speyside, such as Glenlivet or Macallan.	[reply]

I was sure there was a jar of marmite around here somewhere. Someone must have tossed it out. Never mind. On the nutritional information panel marmite has a substantially higher sugar content than Vegemite. They are otherwise similar nutritionally. The extra sugar does of course make marmite much too sweet to be a real contender for a food of champions. ;) Perl is environmentally friendly - it saves trees	[reply]

Finally got round to checking this morning---neither Martmite nor Vegemite list sugar in their ingredients, and Marmite has Carbohydrate (of which sugars) of 1.1g/100g to Vegemite's 1.4g/100g. ........ Those are my principles. If you don't like them I have others. -- Groucho Marx .......	[reply]

British or New Zealand variety? I understand they are quite different products and it is certinally the New Zealand variety I am (slightly) familiar with. According to Sanitarium's Marmite nutritional information the New Zealand variety has 11.8 g/100 g sugars and lists sugar as the second item in the ingredients list.
