You might also be interested in the Reviews section here at Perlmonks, which has good coverage of the Perl book world.

I'd add Peter Scott's 'Perl Medic' and 'Perl Debugging' to the list along with 'Pro Perl Debugging' by Foley and Lester. Finally I'd throw in a copy of 'Perl in a Nutshell (Siever, Spainhour, and Patwardhan) to tie everything together.

5 - Programming the Perl DBI - Tim Bunce
A nice book indeed but it needs a major overhaul to bring it in line with the present version of DBI. It dates back to 2000!

A program should be light and agile, its subroutines connected like a string of pearls. The spirit and intent of the program should be retained throughout. There should be neither too little or too much, neither needless loops nor useless variables, neither lack of structure nor overwhelming rigidity." - The Tao of Programming, 4.1 - Geoffrey James

    Hello,

It's not only Perl but the emphasis is on Perl.

Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination are omnipotent. The slogan "press on" has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.

Not for everybody and not even a perl book but a great book for 'thinking' about programming. "Design Patterns" - Erich Gamma, Richard Helm, Ralph Johnson, John Vlissides. Addison Wesley ISBN 978-0-201-63361-2
