What, no one else has visited Arthur Clarke's famous pub, the White Hart? Who forgot to include Gavagan's? Don't trust the one-thumbed barkeep at the Vulgar Unicorn

Milliway's -- lovely place, but it's a bit of a drive to get there, being all the way out at the end of the universe and all.

That is not well formed Ook!. However, should you find a need for it there is an Ook! interpreter hidden in a corner of the library.

It was a tough choice between Moe's and the most wretched hive of scum and villainy...but naturally I had to go with the latter. And by the way, Greedo did not shoot first.

    meh.

So many places I wished I'd visited! The Inn of the Last Home is an excellent add. Milliway's would be a lot of fun, although I suspect the clientele at either the Prancing Pony or the Leaky Cauldron would be more entertaining. No tubas at the Mos Eisley cantina, however the band does swing.

How about "Inn of the Last Home "?
The inn itself is built in the boughs of a Vallenwood tree and
has a reputation for excellent hospitality. The innkeeper,
a fat, jovial fellow named Otik Sandeth, is famous for his
ale and his delicious spiced potatoes.

If the Inn of the Last Home (from DragonLance) had been on the list I would have had a really hard decision. But without that, Milliway's is is the obvious choice for me followed by the The Prancing Pony.

Regardles, this has to be one of the best polls I have seen in a long time!!  ++!!

You're giving me a hook to do this...

Thanks go to psini for reminding me about the White Hart, the Old Phoenix and the Broken/Mended Drum, to kyle for the Draco Tavern and the Mos Eisley Cantina, to smokemachine for Moe's Bar, Gavin for the Last Chance Saloon, mandarin for the Titty Twister, and martin for the Leaky Cauldron and NYC (Nick's jazz club).

Most of all, I prostrate myself in front of tye for reminding me about Rick's Cafe American and the Blue Parrot, and inspiring the title of the poll.

      You guys are the best!

From all of the above, I only know "Cheers", which I find too old-fashioned. So I voted for Real-Bars.

I followed the links, but that doesn't tell me the story behind the bar for many of them

I often miss an explaining story with polls

Some of the bars listed are famous because of the work of fiction they are a part of (Casablanca, Star Wars, the Harry Potter books, etc.). Some are famous because they are a plot device for stories to be told at (like the White Hart, where Arthur C. Clarke had patrons telling tales to one another, or Callhan's, where Spider Robinson did something similar).

I don't drink, but I read voraciously and love old movies. Some of the places listed above are old friends. I hoped the links would help jog the memory of others (just as people who suggested some of the names helped jog mine).

If you have a question about a specific place, mention the name. Someone here will be happy to talk about it.

Of course, you really can go to Cheers. You realize that there is (or at least was) a bar called "Bull and Finch Pub" in Boston, upon which the TV show was loosely based? At least that's the tale in Boston.

    Wot, no Jamaica Inn ?

Nor, for those of us putting up with Gordon Brown in the UK, no Rovers Return, Woolpack or even Queen Vic ? Not fiction but, in the same way as Cheers and Moe's, close enough for jazz, methinx.

    ;-))

A user level that continues to overstate my experience :-))

      Not fiction?!?!?

And perhaps it was assumed that UK-ish monks have better things to do with their time than waste it sitting in front of soap operas.
