Imprecise tools for the win? Or, well, I guess for the lose.
Although I do feel that perl is perhaps more difficult to handle than some other languages would be... Open parentheses and close parentheses seemed to work.
Have we found a new way to write Lisp?

gnat's lightning talk from YAPC::NA 2002 was a film he made entirely during the conference. It is the story of a Python programmer, wandering confusedly around the Perl conference, encountering many luminaries of the Perl community, all of whom are showing off the most severe corner-cases of their personalities.
Best. movie. ever.

Wow.
I thought I'd check out the advanced parts and jumped to Part IV. Only to see topics such as the hash data type, and subroutines (use & to call subroutines (but it's optional).
That's after three hours of lectures in Part I to III. So I'd say that's very introductory.

I've taken this video course a couple of times now and have kept my subscription to the site going just to rewatch certain chapters.
Perl 5 Essential Training with Bill Weinman. It came out last spring (4/2010) and is about 7 hours. Almost the entire course is a screen cast where you can just code along with him. *(My preferred way to learn.)
