A true master uses any skills ,experience, tools, or code he/she has at hand to accomplish what they want with a minimal effort, even if this means learning another programming/scripting language, to do so. With the exception of spaghetti code, documentation may be optional, though should still be highly encouraged.	[reply]

....it's not just apprentices that program in pseudo-java (I do like that expression - must use it at work to wind some of 'em up even more:-)) it is frequently, in my experience, ex-java programmers that are seemingly incapable &/or unwilling, of/to thinking in perl - witness Test::Unit to name but one... A user level that continues to overstate my experience :-))	[reply]

A hint to the developers of the future: Don't make trouble for yourself. If you skip using `strict`, but then your Perl program "doesn't work", you're not going to get much sympathy from anyone. The same thing applies to any language or tool you use. If you strip off the safety guards because "you know what you're doing" but you end up with a mysterious buffer overflow or a gouge in your arm, it's your own dang fault. Just do it right the first time, and remember -- there's nothing more permanent than a temporary solution. I think that a true master uses "strict, warnings and friends" because with strict and warnings, you can make your Perl code perlfect and it will be nice and neat. with friends, you stay sane, happy, and have a constant source of entertainment and joy :D s/depression/happiness/i;	[reply]
