keenlearner has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Hello Perl Monks, this is my first post, seeking for wisdom :-) . Need guidance on installing a module. when I tried to install Language::Prolog::Yaswi with CPAN (with errors)
kisman@kisman-laptop:~$ sudo perl -MCPAN -e 'install Language::Prolog: +:Yaswi' Language-Prolog-Yaswi-0.16/MANIFEST CPAN: File::Temp loaded ok (v0.21) '/usr/bin/perl Makefile.PL INSTALLDIRS=site' returned status 256, wo +n't make Running make test Make had some problems, won't test Running make install Make had some problems, won't install
This module is a glue to SWI-Prolog, I have the SWI-Prolog already installed in my PC. What is that 256 status ? How can I solve that ? Thanks. My system
Linux kisman-laptop 2.6.28-11-generic #42-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 17 01:57: +59 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux kisman@kisman-laptop:~$ perl -v This is perl, v5.10.0 built for i486-linux-gnu-thread-multi

Maybe running "perl Makefile.PL INSTALLDIRS=site" manually (from within the ~/.cpan/build/... directory) would give you more output that would help to figure out why that command returned status 256... (which, in short, just means it failed)

Thanks Perl Monks, I think there is a problem with CPAN installer, after reading the README file for that module then I knew that my prolog program "pl" is not set in PATH. Also it will only installed if I installed it manually.
