Ruby-maniacs and SnakeLovers will discover the one true way; even a few PHP adicts may find rehabilitation.
Actually Ruby, Python and PHP dominated. If the folks who brought that disaster that is Perl6 had instead focused efforts on packaging Perl5 products like PSGI/Plack did, Perl would still be in the running.

      Just sad.

The Developer:Telepathy suite of modules will be released to CPAN ...
And afterwards- even more complicated: Algorithm::UnderstandWomen ;-)

      Happy new Year! Rata

I remember working on that project. We had the complete high-level API done, but they never finished the device driver. Then the neural network went down, and all the telepaths crashed. It wasn't pretty.

That Perl will continue to be a life-saver and help me to crunch enough data to fill my thesis and finally finish my PhD! I may even thank Larry Wall (and P-Monks!) in my acknowledgements, if only to irritate the bioinformatics department who are all caffeine addicts or in Slytherin house...

    Just a something something...

I predict that, in my new job, I will discover a certain resistance to Perl, until I show how easy it can be to do certain things.

And even then, ONE person ...

Hmm. I'm making a Perl program for text processing. I eventually hope to make it have a semi-realistic conversation. So, of course, I voted for the Turing Test.

That perlmonks will start the year with a poll that has the least creative response options to date.

My toppest prediction is that I'll learn how to program... and if I work at it, it can become a self-fulfilling prophecy.

The Turing test will be passed!! I'm getting back into Perl and that is the goal which I've established some 3 years ago. Already made progress and I am hoping one day humans will create something like Cortana (as a rough example)!

Shouldn't it be, "another Earth-like planet will be discovered?" We discovered this one quite some time ago.

Ah, sorry - misread it. I though the poll said "Perl 6 will climb the stairs".

I thought that was maybe Rakudo Stannah

It would be nice to see a usable Perl 6 version. CERN LHC still may not be a large enough machine to find a Higgs. There may be some new moves in the area of renewable energy that may be the true beginning of the end for fossil fuels.

I'm wondering how many of these, if any, happened.

Earth-like planets will be discovered 101/17%

earth-like planets 2010 Though, ultimately, it matters what your definition of "earth-like" is. This get a maybe then?

The Higgs boson will be detected 100/17%

Not in 2010. Though, perhaps in 2012.

The Turing test will be passed 26/4%

Also not in 2010. Though that may have been due to people waiting for 2014.

Perl 6 will climb the charts 135/22%

I'm guessing that didn't happen. Which chart anyway?

    Something else 106/18%

Seems undefined. So, i'll just respond with a NULL.

    Something wonderful 133/22%

something wonderful 2010 If it did happen, they haven't told us about it.
