in reply to poll ideas quest 2010

Dear monks!

The experience-game is rolling, and in not-so-far-future Ikegami and BrowserUK will reach the magical 100000 points. Three cheers for them!

Unfortunately, this gives us a problem: according to our Voting/Experience System, they would reach Level 28 then - and become Pope. But there can be only one! We must face this problem - and I propose to introduce a new rank starting with 100000XP.

Now this leads us to the following question, which I'd like to solve by a poll:

The new rank below Pope should be called

  • Lama
  • Nuncios
  • Patriarch
  • Evangelist
  • Enlightened
  • Angel
  • Messiah
  • Vice-Pope
  • Honorable Paco
  • violate the Highlander Principle and let us all be Pope!
  • other (please give us your proposal)
Rata

Update 2010-08-19: Now that both have reached the magical 100000XP (Congratulations for reaching the goal, and thanks for all your support being behind that numbers!), this poll no longer makes sense.

Sorry, I have all sorts of problems with this list.
    • 'Lama' and 'Enlightened' expand into other belief systems. I guess this is OK, but to be fair, we would have to add so many that there would now be about 150 levels.
    • Evangelist and Patriarch would fall well below Apostle, let alone Pope
    • Angel's aren't even human, and are on a completely separate track
    • As there is only 1 Messiah, this might be a good candidate to put above Pope, with the current Papal restriction applied (and removed from its current title)
May I humbly submit the following possibilities:
    • Whenever there is more than one eligible, we lock them in a room until white smoke comes out. The losers (if they are still alive), drop back to apostle again (and hopefully learn better hand-to-hand tactics) Perlmonks could probably afford top-of-the-line servers if we sold the rights to this to the UFC for PPV
    • Popino - "little Pope"
    • Pope of Greenwich Village
    • I'm not a real pope but I play one on the Internet
    • The artist formerly known as 'the Pope'

    fnord

As there is only 1 Messiah

      What? Only one? Bloody fascist!

      Enjoy, Have FUN! H.Merijn

There's nothing wrong with three or more Popes, both BrowserUk and ikegami have given of their time, knowledge and experience and are well entitled to the ultimate accolade.

What makes you think there can be only one pope? Once upon a time there were three.

Edit: On the other hand, I rather like the idea of Ikegami and BrowserUK meeting on a mountain top, at dawn, with swords.

    How about Anti-Pope?
Of course, the Pope and Anti-Pope can't ever be in the same room at the same time or the resulting chemical reaction would be disastrous!

Pope of the Western Church, Pope of the Eastern Church, Pope of Perl v5...

Besides, who says there can only be one? This isn't Highlander, you know...
