There is very little I can say that hasn't already been said as you received a lot of great advice on this. The one thing that I can offer is that when giving project completion dates, is to qualify them. Once you figure out the spec, you can give a date but specify that that will be the date, provided they make no changes. I have found too many times that once a project is underway, the client wants to make a major change in how they want to do business based on something they read or something their kid told them at dinner. Thank god that Perl is so flexible!
