In addition to davido's excellent advice, you should also take a look in the Tutorials section here and scan the Seekers of Perl Wisdom questions and answers for things that peak your interest.

You have already asked in the CB about things you should know and do to use the site effectively so you may be interested in I know what I mean. Why don't you? for some posting tricks that will help you and us understand each other. Oh, and a general tip for Perl: always use strictures (use strict; use warnings; - see The strictures, according to Seuss).
