It's sad that you feel that the responses you get to your idea are cynical and that your approach at humility is not met with the reaction you expect. You are of course free to continue to use your unique approach, as it already seems to have served you well in practice.

It is unfortunate that you do not want to highlight the differences between your tool and the existing tools. Doing so might make it easier for potential users of your toolset to evaluate what your new tool does and in what ways it is superior to the existing solutions already in place.

• My take on this: everyone was actually extremely nice and contructive considering; Dunning–Kruger effect. I'm nice and contructive too until the "I'm too good for this so I'm going to take my ball and go home" stuff comes out.

You're obviously free to do that though work is made better through a healthy critique. However, since you seem to have made up your mind, this post is more for those finding the critique stage of creation difficult.

You should never take a critique personally. Granted, some are not very good at it but most people (here in particular) want to figure out how the work can be better. If you present work for critique you can't also present it as a finished product. The entire purpose of a critique is to figure out IF this work is close to done and if not what needs to happen in order to achieve it's goal.

In art school we had to put up our work every week on the wall. Every instructor had a variation of the following guide for the class when giving a critique of their fellow classmate's work:

1. Does it address the stated problem/goal? How? Be specific.
2. What elements of the work are successful and which are not? Why?
3. How well has the piece been technically executed? What if anything can be improved?
4. Critique the work not the student.

There's also advice instructors give for the student who's work is being critiqued:

1. Listen carefully and take notes.
2. The critique is of the work NOT YOU.

Sometimes critiques can reflect the person's biases more than anything they are viewing. There is nothing that can be done about that as most people don't even realize they are doing it. Sometimes you want to hear their biases (an example would be UI testing). Experience will help separate unhelpful biases from constructive criticism.

I am sorry that you have not been met with the reception you may have hoped. This is the internet and rarely are punches pulled. Hopefully you can read past the responses you find unproductive and see some of the good advice that others have offered.

Some of us are trying to help you get your point across. I would be willing to look at your code and offer any suggestions I have regarding as to a possible way ways to restructure or improve the performance. If you are interested msg me and I will provide an email address.

I hope you reconsider your decision to leave PerlMonks. Give the site a chance and remember that when it comes to the internet, people's opinions are only as important as you think they are.

Oh, and since you complained about someone anonymously downvoting you in another thread, I wanted you to know that I downvoted you in this one because you asked to have your account and your posts deleted instead of trying a different approach (such as the one I just mentioned above).

Even if you cannot convince others that your idea is the best way to go, you can still tackle the project yourself, for your own pleasure. And if you do go that route, you can still ask for help and advice on here, albeit for specific ares of the code.

Seeing you still post here on a daily basis, /me wonders if you want to be deleted at all, or if you are just enjoying yourself in telling the rest how deviant and wrong they all are.
