I've noticed this before as well. I also must admit that I thought it would be interesting to see if I could OK and frontpage my node. After selecting both options and submitting the form, nothing happened. I think there must be code somewhere that prevents you from OKing or frontpaging your own nodes, but the code is missing that updates the approval nodelet.

Try again and then click your browser's "Back" and then "Refresh" buttons. The behavior you describe happens when you approve any node, not just your own. It is just that the approval nodelet isn't initially updated after you submit.

You can certainly approve and frontpage your own nodes.
