More re PM bug?

More re PM Bug? ... because I can't reply to that thread... and after preview and create, I get what I've written and posted labeled as written by another monk (and same ID as the other monk's prior reply) -- but then that content never shows in the thread. Seems to have jetted off somewhere (but not the bit bucket?).

Actually, same problem for me started with an attempt to reply to New site for perl... and I may have besmirched GrandFather's good reputation if my post ever actually shows up, since the rendered content after preview and create attributed comment to him:

Thread: begins at New site for perl
GrandFather's: Re: New site for perl
(His actual post: questions failure to mention PM as a resource)
Mine, when created after preview: same id, with this content:
Tips'n Tricks->one liner: unix quoting with no qualifiers to stmnt that "This will print Hello oneliner in command line."
Nope; it will print the Hello oneliner on the command line ONLY so long as the CLI is nix-=ish.

Tutorial: "Introduction
PERL - Practical Extraction and Reporting Language
You do know that's a backronym, right?

Tutorial (again): "File Handling" ...
No example of 3 arg open?

News: First item is announcement of the site by an individual wasting huge amounts of resources here?

Update: Thanks to tye for the fix; 2nd blockquoted content above posted as intended now.</update>

OTOH, you've done some neat stuff to render additional detail about examples, just for instance... So work on the content.

Also noticed that BrowserUK has posted a node sometime today (lost its id; sorry) saying, loosely paraphrased, Ignore this; PM is all screwed up....

Replies are listed 'Best First'.

Ignore this; PM is all screwed up....

Indeed. Basically, it is impossible to post a second 1st-level post once there is a first, 1st-level post.

The symptoms are, as you describe. Preview looks fine. After commit, the screen shows your content, but attribution is the same as for the existing 1st-level post. But revisit the thread from the root and the original 1st level post is intact, and there is no sign of the new post.

roboticus has also seen the problem

      BrowserUk:

Ah, so *that's* what it is! I retried the operation several times and was a bit concerned. I imagine that now that the symptom is clarified that the PMDevs will be able to track it down (a little) more easily.

Your description is perfectly consistent with what I've seen.

    Fixed.

You know how you click the "++" button to vote on a node and then try to scroll down and your browser decides that you've given focus to a form element so obviously you didn't mean to navigate on the page, you meant to change your choice in that input element?

Yeah, I've hated that behavior for a very long time.

That's what broke posting. I accidentally turned on "no duplicate node titles allowed" for replies.

Eh, no, I don't. To navigate down, I either hit the "end" button, the "page down" button (repeatedly if necessary), click on the lower end of the vertical navigation bar, or use the scroll wheel on my mouse.

That all works, regardless whether my browser has its focus on a form element or not. (Except when using the scroll wheel while the focus is a textarea -- then it will scroll the textarea instead).

Well, consider yourself lucky. "end", "page down", "down arrow", and "mouse wheel" all change form drop-downs here. Navigating the mouse pointer to the narrow strip of the scroll bar is a pain, as is evidenced by the invention of the "scroll wheel". And I use the mouse as little as practical (it is slow and cumbersome compared to keyboard methods in most cases of there being a keyboard method).

I have a distant memory of having to use Alt-Down to navigate a drop-down. I hope to make or find an add-on that moves back toward the navigation keys being useful much, much more often. I also hate that clicking on a Flash&trade component makes even more keyboard navigation impossible, especially Alt-F, Alt-D, and Ctrl-Tab.
