Using look-ahead not to insert final colon:

$mac =~ s/(..)(?=.)/$1:/g
[download]

Rather than performing the unnecessary capture and replace, you can use `\K` on perl 5.10.0 and later to just keep the initial match. `s/..\K(?=.)/:/g` See Character Classes and other Special Escapes in perlre.	[reply] [d/l] [select]
