A prayer for all time

Socrates: Dear Pan, and all ye other gods that dwell in this place, grant that I may become fair within, and that such outward things as I have may not war against the spirit within me. May I count him rich who is wise, and as for gold, may I possess only so much of it as a temperate man might have. Is this there anything more we can ask for, Phaedrus? The prayer contents me.

Phaedrus: Make it a prayer for me too, since friends have all things in common.

SOCRATES: So too if we disagreed about a question of the larger or smaller, we would take to measurement and put an end to our disagreement quickly?

I manage Solaris Linux servers people (and Linux Servers) and I started using Perl some years ago to automate. Truly humbling to have such a great resource as a young medium professional. The Monastery is a lovely meritocracy and it is great to see ideas being defended, questioned, and dissected.

Opinions

Socrates: Tell me, then, whether I am right in saying that some opinions, and the opinions of some men only, are to be valued, and other opinions, and the opinions of other men, are not to be valued. I ask you whether I was right in maintaining this?

Crito: Certainly.

Socrates: The good are to be regarded, and not the bad?

Crito: Yes.

Socrates: And the opinions of the wise are good, and the opinions of the unwise are evil?

Crito: Certainly.

Socrates: And he ought to fear the censure and welcome the praise of that one only, and not of the many?

Crito: That is clear.
