ok, "the server side code to page and filter the DataTables requests wouldn't be too difficult to achieve in plain old CGI"
I am ready to flexibly believe with you here - so you can show me sample code for me to start with? Show me some code! I know this isn't trivial - and that was the reason for me to switch to nodejs module, where there was a module to solve my task (module named datatables-server-side-node). You continue to state that perl's solution is easier, but you fail to point me to Perl module which solves my task.

Posts may use any of the Perl Monks Approved HTML tags. Currently these include the following:
<code> <a> <b> <big>
<blockquote> <br /> <dd>
<dl> <dt> <em> <font>
<h1> <h2> <h3> <h4>
<h5> <h6> <hr /> <i>
<li> <nbsp> <ol> <p>
<small> <strike> <strong>
  <table>
<td> <th> <tr> <tt>
<u> <ul>
-
Snippets of code should be wrapped in
<code> tags not
<pre> tags. In fact, <pre>
tags should generally be avoided. If they must
be used, extreme care should be
taken to ensure that their contents do not
have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent
horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor
intervention).
