Yes, there doesn't seem to be much out there in the way of useful materials for your task. At least, I couldn't find anything decent.

Given your impressive mastery of Python scoping rules you seem well qualified to give this course! You might invent some instructive scoping examples where Perl is simpler and clearer than Python.

Snippets of code should be wrapped in <code> tags not <pre> tags. In fact, <pre> tags should generally be avoided. If they must be used, extreme care should be taken to ensure that their contents do not have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor intervention).
