Why did people downvote this without posting?

After having a conversation with Nemp it turns out that Nemp didn't know this style of obfu had been previously posted to the monastery's obfu section, which means that Nemp thought this up personally, which is to say it's an original idea (for Nemp at least). That in itself is hard enough. Furthermore it takes a lot of guts to post it to the monastery without being intimidated by such heavyweights as Camel Code and Spiraling Quine.

Personally, i upvoted it, for one because it doesn't deserve a negative rep (it's the first try, please be lenient!) and secondly because i had fun with it. Whenever someone posts an obfu that's not that difficult i usually try to see what i can do with it. Sometimes there's more than meets the eye there. Sometimes the code gives me an idea for something wacky. If what i'm particularly proud of what i came up with i'll either post it or put it on my scratchpad and tell them that if they want to see something slightly different they can. It's an attempt at helping which is useful even if coming from someone only mildly skilled in the art...

So that's why i upvoted it. Could someone who downvoted it please tell me why? i'm curious to know...

PS To Nemp: since this has been done before people will have an easier time with it, but congratulations on your first attempt. May your next be impossible to read :) If you want some pointers i suggest this, and in particular the bottom three links to Abigail and Zlatanov's material...

PS To Others: i'm not necessarily advocating upvoting (particularly not mindlessly) but if you don't think it's that good just don't vote. It's actually easier than taking the time to downvote it and it doesn't scare off new obfu-ers from a difficult and fickle art...

Title:
Use:  <p> text here (a paragraph) </p>
and:  <code> code here </code>
to format your post; it's "PerlMonks-approved HTML":

  • Are you posting in the right place? Check out Where do I post X? to know for sure.
  • Posts may use any of the Perl Monks Approved HTML tags. Currently these include the following:
    <code> <a> <b> <big> <blockquote> <br /> <dd> <dl> <dt> <em> <font> <h1> <h2> <h3> <h4> <h5> <h6> <hr /> <i> <li> <nbsp> <ol> <p> <small> <strike> <strong> <table> <td> <th> <tr> <tt> <u> <ul>
  • Snippets of code should be wrapped in <code> tags not <pre> tags. In fact, <pre> tags should generally be avoided. If they must be used, extreme care should be taken to ensure that their contents do not have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor intervention).
  • Want more info? How to link or How to display code and escape characters are good places to start.
