pg really missed the point, and so do a lot of monks (including the one who considered OT: Happily developing on Windows, thanks to Cygwin).

OT: Happily developing on Windows, thanks to Cygwin is a meditation (nodetype "perlmeditation").
Repeat it with me, it is a meditation.
(OT) Security Rant is a meditation.
(OT) Finding Technology Solutions is a meditation.
(OT) The Honest Cherry Bomb is a meditation.
A perl meditation doesn't have to contain the word "perl" in it, it doesn't have to be perl centric, it just has to be relatable/applicable/ to the perl programmer/look-e-loo.

Now a meditation on "the best available visual basic debugger" would not be an acceptable perlmeditation ... it is clearly OT (OT in the sense that it should have never been posted).

(OT) SSL Certificates: Self-Signing and Alternative Solutions on the other hand, while relatable, is well something best discussed elsewhere (it is OT, just as much as discussing the "SCO/linux" copyright thing is). This is clearly best discussed elsewhere (maybe on slashdot).

OT: Looking for friendly UK ISP Sysadmins is also clearly off topic (I personally am fascinated by antique pornography, and would like to find some friendly british people who have access to antique pornography, antique british pornography). This too is clearly best discussed elsewhere (maybe on slashdot).

in thread don't be nervous about OT by pg

Title:
Use:  <p> text here (a paragraph) </p>
and:  <code> code here </code>
to format your post; it's "PerlMonks-approved HTML":

  • Are you posting in the right place? Check out Where do I post X? to know for sure.
  • Posts may use any of the Perl Monks Approved HTML tags. Currently these include the following:
    <code> <a> <b> <big> <blockquote> <br /> <dd> <dl> <dt> <em> <font> <h1> <h2> <h3> <h4> <h5> <h6> <hr /> <i> <li> <nbsp> <ol> <p> <small> <strike> <strong> <table> <td> <th> <tr> <tt> <u> <ul>
  • Snippets of code should be wrapped in <code> tags not <pre> tags. In fact, <pre> tags should generally be avoided. If they must be used, extreme care should be taken to ensure that their contents do not have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor intervention).
  • Want more info? How to link or How to display code and escape characters are good places to start.
