This has been brought before (I can remember syntax highlighting of code in perlmonks forums and Feature Request: Adding Colors to Source Code at least), so you might look there for monk's opinions. I also remember Jaap having a javascript solution for this, ~~though I can't remember where it is~~ it's (Client side) Perl Syntax Highlighter. As for me, I have syntax highlighting turned off on my PC's and never have liked it.

Posts may use any of the Perl Monks Approved HTML tags. Currently these include the following:

Snippets of code should be wrapped in <code> tags not <pre> tags. In fact, <pre> tags should generally be avoided. If they must be used, extreme care should be taken to ensure that their contents do not have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor intervention).
