Because the most important thing to learn about Perl (and any other programming language (or anything else for that matter) is how to find out for yourself.
Learning to fish, in other words. The single most important thing I learned about Perl was how to use perldoc properly. I don't think I have needed to ask a technical question since. Not many anyway.
