The best thing you can do is find a web host that gives you what you need without you needing to all sorts of tricks to get basic information that you should be able to see from the log files. Your service may have the log files available even though you don't know about it, though. You can get decent web hosting pretty cheaply: a lot cheaper than hacking up and supporting something to get around this problem. :)
