There are a few module recommendations, one of the most prominent is the The Perl Advent Calendar. And it is really usefull from time to time to find out new interesting modules. But still for most of the tasks I can find what I need using CPAN Search. With only one caveat, sometimes the modules I find are not the best quality, sometimes they have better replacements, but I just happened to find the worse alternative first. I would spare lots of time if I was warned about them. So here is my proposal for listing the modules that dissapointed you with reasons why.

I start with:

By the way for all that start to use Class::DBI it might be usefull to consider DBIx::Class instead. It is still a bit experimental, but it tries to be more general and cleaner replacement for Class::DBI.

Use:  <p> text here (a paragraph) </p>
and:  <code> code here </code>
to format your post; it's "PerlMonks-approved HTML":

  • Are you posting in the right place? Check out Where do I post X? to know for sure.
  • Posts may use any of the Perl Monks Approved HTML tags. Currently these include the following:
    <code> <a> <b> <big> <blockquote> <br /> <dd> <dl> <dt> <em> <font> <h1> <h2> <h3> <h4> <h5> <h6> <hr /> <i> <li> <nbsp> <ol> <p> <small> <strike> <strong> <table> <td> <th> <tr> <tt> <u> <ul>
  • Snippets of code should be wrapped in <code> tags not <pre> tags. In fact, <pre> tags should generally be avoided. If they must be used, extreme care should be taken to ensure that their contents do not have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor intervention).
  • Want more info? How to link or How to display code and escape characters are good places to start.
