RPerl is the new optimizing compiler for Perl 5. Perl 11 is the philosophy of pluggability and the reunification of Perl 5 with Perl 6. We can currently use RPerl to speed up low-magic Perl 5 code with over 300x performance gain. This talk will discuss the future plans for supporting medium-magic and high-magic Perl 5 code, as well as Perl 6, and beyond.

Our meeting will begin in about an hour. You can follow the link below to watch the livestream:

When the meeting has ended, the link remains active; you'll still be able to watch the presentation after-the-fact.

The longer link was requested in the event that google may someday discontinue the goo.gl shortening service:

      https://plus.google.com/events/co453oon2i69g8im8pss1rml29k

What's interesting is--what happens when google discontinues its social platform, online meetings (hangouts), and youtube--all of which were involved and are leveraged as tools to meet up each month and provide a worldwide view into our meetings whenever anyone is interested.

There is the valid concern that no part of the internet is forever. However, there's also the concern that it the debate can quickly grow silly when deciding whose part of the internet is less-forever than the other. I'll hedge my bets that youtube isn't going anywhere for a good while, and the decision to archive our meetings there is, in my pre-calculated decision to use it, a pretty safe bet.

the reunification of Perl 5 with Perl 6

Given the blatant lie above, did anyone actually bother to watch?

I did, and I appreciate the effort of all involved. You may not like the topic, but seeing the burgeoning capability of a free online meeting capability was worth the visit.
