Could we please get a new node/superdoc for asking questions? And a link to this node in the monktitlebar?

My reasoning, it makes it easier.

Also, it might reduce replies to old nodes, which should really be new questions in SOPW

TIA

I think it would be good if there was a "Ask a question" link which lead to SoPW, next to the "Need Help??" link. I also think it may be a good idea if the formatting advice was displayed above the input form in Add a question.

      It could.

The link works, its complicated but it works. It could easily be made into a New Question , New Post or such.

The title says "preview page" but that could be made to clarify you're asking a new question.

Providing a dropdown menu for choosing a section could easily be added but isn't essential.

I think my version, even if it takes more space and what not, is better.

If you like it, save it to your harddisk, add a <base href="http://www.perlmonks.org/"> and open in your browser :) Its what I would do if I asked more questions :)

      Please don't feed the troll.

What's wrong with replies to old nodes? It keeps associated information grouped together nicely. And if you want to be able to readily see such things you can use Newest Nodes which is what Neighbour was suggesting. Many people do, so you need not worry about such comments disappearing into the ether.

Funny, you're missing the point completely :) See Re^2: Make asking questions easier ; request for new superdoc/titlebar.

Its not about replies getting lost.

      Its about asking new questions.

Its about making it easy to ask new questions. As easy as making new replies.

New questions go in SOPW (Where should I post X? )

No, you are missing the point of my comment. You said:

There are assumptions there (reawakening threads, etc.), and I was addressing some of them.

I agree. I've always been curious as to why the instructions for posting, combined with the full post form, weren't just displayed directly on SoPW. I do admit that it's kinda annoying to scroll to the bottom of the section pages just to post there. I can't think of any other forum where asking new questions is put so far out of the way, other than perhaps Slashdot.

Newest Nodes doesn't present a form/textarea in which to type my question.

To make this reply, I simply clicked one link marked "reply", and the next thing I saw was a form/textarea in which to type.

To ask a question, I have to know to go to Seekers Of Perl Wisdom or another section, wait 20 seconds for it to load ( Newest Nodes takes only 7 seconds), then scroll past 10 questions to find a form/textarea to ask my question.

If I didn't already know this, it might take me half an hour to find the ask-a-new-question-form.

Hmm, one half hour to find the right door? I go to The Monastery Gates and I can't ask a question. I can [Offer your reply] but I can't ask a question?

There is a big SEARCH button at the top of every page, but there is no NEW QUESTION button, and if try to search for NEW QUESTION it won't lead me to the place to ask a NEW QUESTION

On practically every forum the NEW QUESTION button is always prominent

Having a NEW QUESTION button is is the equivalent of having DON'T PANIC in big friendly letters
